Avaaz is a civic organization that is based in the United States of America. Avaaz is a Persian word which means voice and was founded in the year 2007 with the aim of promoting global activism. The word Avaaz was chosen because it is related to many languages both in meaning and sound.
Avaaz has a simple democratic mission that seeks to organize citizens from different parts of the world to close the gap between the present world and the world that most people desire.
Avaaz is only ten years old now and has grown to become one of the world largest and most vocal online activists network. It has helped empower millions of people from all walks of life globally to stand up for what they believe is right. Avaaz model of internet organizing has been able to galvanize individual and group efforts into one powerful collective force.
The Avaaz organization makes its campaigns through 15 different languages and is served by a core team which is spread across six continents and has thousands of volunteers as part of its team. The organization has achieved a lot in terms of initiating change through the signing of petitions, funding media campaigns and through direct actions such as emailing, calling, organizing offline protest and events and lobbying of governments.
