Vijay Eswaren was born in 1960 in Penang, Malaysia. He is a graduate of the Lond School of Economics, where he earned his degree in 1984. He stayed in Europe for a little while working in a variety of jobs such as construction, farm work, and driving a cab. He then moved to the United States and attended Southern Illinois University, earning his MBA in 1986. While he was at SIU he learned about multi-level marketing which is a way of selling a company’s product through a network of independent contractors. It was in 1988 that Vijay Eswaran founded what would come to be known as QI Group. It is headquartered in Hong Kong and has other offices which are located in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Through a group of subsidiaries, QI Group’s products and serves are sold in 10 Asian countries. It sells a large array of products and services including telecommunications, travel, media, wellness, professional training, luxury products, education, and corporate investing. Vijay Eswaran is a very popular public speaker, especially as a motivational speaker. He has spoken at a large number of business conventions and management forums around the world. He was a keynote speaker for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas which is a large conference held in India every year. He has also spoken at the World Economic Forum about his insights into business management and strategic visions.
As an author, Vijay Eswaran has written a number of books including the motivational book In The Sphere of Science that was released in 2005. This book explained how he manages his personal life and attains individual growth. One of the habits that he writes about that he believes is vital is to spend each day in an hour of silence, instead thinking deeply about issues and how to achieve personal goals. Another of the four books he was written is In The Thinking Zone which, published in 2008, gives his reflections on life. He also released a book of his photography in 2011 which he named On the Wings of Thought.
As he deeply believes in giving back to the community, Vijay Eswaran has engaged in a considerable amount of philanthropy. He created a corporate social responsibility arm at QI Group that he named the RYTHM Foundation which helps disadvantaged people across Asia. RYTHM is an acronym for Raise Yourself To Help Mankind. He also founded a charity in his native Malaysia that he named after his father, Vijayratnam Foundation. This specifically helps Malaysian youth who come from low-income families. The foundation provides educational opportunities for this children, especially for young girls. Children are given aid in order to attend vocational programs that will help them attain good jobs. It also supports community development, the environment, and arts & culture.
Over the course of his career, Vijay Eswaran has earned a large number of rewards for both his business career and philanthropy. The Global Organisation for People of Indian Origin honored him with their International Leader Award. He was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for Global Entrepreneurship in 2016. The Pannasastra University of Cambodia gave him an Honorary Doctorate in Economics and Global Business. For his philanthropy, he has been listed by Forbes on their Asia’s List of Heroes of Philanthropy, as well as their Lifetime Acheivement in Regional Philanthropy. These two awards were presented to Vijay Eswaran at the Third Chinese World Economic Forum.
