Katie Porter Has the Support of End Citizens United and Emily’s List

Citizens Political action

The progressive Political Action Committee, End Citizens United, has joined Emily’ list in supporting Katie Porter in her race for California’s 45th Congressional District seat in the upcoming November 2018 Midterm Elections. Emily’s list advocates for women to engage in the political process and assert their strength at the ballot box.

Katie Porter is a University of California Irvine Law Professor and consumer advocate. She has been at the forefront of the ongoing battle to assure that there is a level playing field in the marketplace and that consumers will not be taken advantage of by unscrupulous big businesses and banks bent solely on lining the pockets of the top 1% who have rigged the game to benefit only themselves and the candidates they endorse. Porter has received the endorsements of Senator Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris, two staunch consumer advocates.

End Citizens United and EMILY’s List have been able to raise more than a hundred thousand dollars for Katie Porter’s campaign through small donations and will be launching a mailing campaign in May which will seek to inform the people of the 45th District about the sharp differences between Porter and the incumbent Republican she is running against. The mailing campaign will reach over 50,000 likely voters.

In addition to the direct mailing, Katie’s campaign will reach out to the residents of the 45th District via social media. The social media advertising will reach roughly 200,000 voters who are likely to favor Porter’s stance on the issues that confront the residents of the 45th District.

In sharp contrast to Porter, her opponent, the incumbent Republican, Mimi Walters, has chosen to accept large donations from big corporations and banks. Her backers include the National Rifle Association (NRA). Walters has voted to loosen restrictions on gun ownership multiple times. As the 45th’s Representative Walters voted in favor of dismantling the Affordable Care Act. Walters supported the Republican bill which would have increased health insurance premiums and eliminated coverage for individuals with pre-existing medical conditions. Walters is also in favor of defunding Planned Parenthood, and has repeatedly voted in favor of the interests of big corporations and banks.

Walters is an ally of Paul Ryan and Donald Trump. Her voting record reveals that she seeks to advance the interests of the wealthy and not the interests of the working class.

Emily’s list’s political arm, Women Vote, has been supporting progressive candidates like Katie Porter since 1995.

Founded 1n 2005 after the disastorous Supreme Court decision, Citizens United, which opened the floodgate on unlimited campaign donations, End Citizens United has enjoyed growing success in uniting the general public in opposition to those who think unlimited campaign donations are OK.
