Flavio Maluf, the CEO and president of Eucatex S.A., continues to amaze the building industry. Eucatex North America is only 16 years old, but it is currently producing revenue of $16 to $50 million. The key to Eucatex North America’s business success is the home improvement stores and the wholesalers that buy lumber, millwork, plywood, paints, varnishes and wood panels under Eucatex brands. The Eucatex brands that are popular today are Divisorias, Chapas, Paineis, and Eucatex.
The history of Eucatex is interesting. The company started from a sawmill factory in the state of Sao Paulo. The Sawmill Americana Sawmill was cutting a large number of eucalyptus wood in the late 1940s and early 1950s. The excess wood started to pile up around the sawmill. The Maluf family owned the sawmill, and one of the family members decided to make a ceiling tile out of the excess eucalyptus wood. The wood ceiling tile was inexpensive and attractive, so builders started buying the tiles for offices and other buildings. The demand continued to grow and by November 1951 the decision was made to form a new company and call it Eucatex.
Today, Eucatex S.A. Industria e Comercio is just called Eucatex. The company is one of the top ten wood based product manufacturers in Brazil. Eucatex manufactures and sells ceiling and insulating material made from eucalyptus wood. The Eucatex product line is an extensive one. The product line consists of hardboards, flush doors, medium density panels, wall partition framework, soft boards, and laminate flooring.
Other products manufactured in Eucatex factories in Brazil are varnishes, laminate floors, ceiling panels, medium density fiberboard panels, and paints. The product line is distributed by three distinct segments in the company. Those segments are called Wood, Paint, and Others. In 2015, Eucatex shipped their product line to 37 different countries in North America, Africa, Europe, The Middle East, and South America. Most of those countries use Eucatex products in furniture, construction and in the retail sector of their economy.
The company now has 79 eucalyptus tree farms and four manufacturing plants. All the Eucatex factories use renewable energy, according to Flavio Maluf.
